Mungo Murphy lives in Connemara in the West of Ireland on a bogland beside the sea. He lives with his one-eyed rabbit named Sushi and his tailless cat, Parnell. He began as a farmer of periwinkles, but has since expanded into seaweed, abalone, sea cucumber, sea urchins as these creatures thrive in his land based aquaculture system. Mungo invites you to embark on a coastal walking/foraging tour in Rossaveal, Connemara to experience the local history and to breathe the wild Atlantic sea air while learning about edible sea plants along the way. After learning about seaweed, visit the boutique abalone farm on the edge of Galway Bay and enjoy a tour of this modern aquaculture farm and a tasting of fresh seafood dishes that makes use of the seafood grown on the farm and the sea plants foraged along the shore.
When not working on his farm or harvesting seaweed, Mungo is either soaking himself in a seaweed bath or else eating the seaweed in one of his delicious and nutritious culinary creations. Mungo loves seaweed and he treats it with respect when collecting it from the fresh Atlantic Ocean.
